Quality Assurance

Quality assurance and quality control are essential components of the work done by Medical Physics.

Radiation Oncology

Medical Physics provides support to the Department of Radiation Oncology by providing:

  • Quality control on radiation therapy treatment units
  • Technical support and quality control for brachytherapy
  • TLD monitoring for clinical and research activities

Oncologic Imaging / Screen Test:
Alberta Program for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer

Quality assurance and quality control for diagnostic imaging modalities is also provided by Medical Physics. This includes equipment in the Departments of Oncologic Imaging and Radiation Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute, as well as the breast screening program of the Alberta Cancer Board.

The Quality Assurance area is staffed by:

  • One Medical Physicist responsible for Oncologic Imaging/Screen Test
  • One equivalent Medical Physicist responsible for Radiation Oncology (these duties are actually shared between several Medical Physicist)
